This will be a quick report.
Swim: 16:11 - short
T1: 1:00
Bike: 54:55 - about 1 mile short
T2: 1:16
Run: 36:23 - not too happy with that
Total: 1:49:43
Placing: 5th Overall
The race came and went. It was fun. The time trial start...pros at 10 second intervals, age groupers at 3 second intervals...was interesting.
I started 34th out of about 37. I passed people all day. I swim hard and rode hard. I also ran hard, but lost some steam about 4 miles in. I also had my first ever pit stop in a US race. Yeah, it happened in France, but that was time change/food/etc. related. Even still, the run was less than stellar after my last few races and workouts. That just kind of goes to show that it is very difficult to put together a complete race. A run that I was capable of would have easily put me 3rd. Oh well. Got some gas money.
Amy did not race. She had been battling sinus congestion last week. Instead of getting meds pre-race, she rolled the dice and is going today. A full-blown (literally!!) sinus infection hit Friday about the time we rolled into Memphis. She made the right choice and opted for a DNS rather than a DNF.
More later about Memphis and US classic Olympic Distance races in a day or so.

Quick Memphis Report

The Race Schedule Gives it Away...but some hints...
Three songs, three singers, probably even three writers given that these folks are more singer-songwriter types...the second is pretty obvious...the first and third, not so much depending on your musical genre selection...
And we were down on Beale Street, Memphis, Tennessee
With the blues, the booze, the bar-B-Q's, our name on the marquee
And you should have seen... the crowd we drew in there
What I really mean... I wish you were here
Saw the ghost of Elvis
On Union Avenue
Followed him up to the gates of Graceland
Then I watched him walk right through
Now security they did not see him
They just hovered 'round his tomb
But there's a pretty little thing
Waiting for the King
Down in the Jungle Room
With an old suitcase, I swear I'll leave this place
I'll get you back in time
Can't drink you off my mind. So, I'll see you when I'm sober.
I been looking for some reasons, but I ain't found one down in Texas
I been changing with the seasons
Walked in a new line back to Memphis.
Race report to follow...

Procrastination
I've got a date with the treadmill. It's not going to be as much of a hot date as our last sessions. But, they seem to be working. Memphis is this weekend. Since we are driving Friday, our last of the main workouts end today. Anyway, I'd rather blog than do the workout. It's just over an hour total, but still...
Sunday was a steady hour run. Yesterday we headed to the pool in the morning. The main set was 5x200, 5x100, 5x50 all aerobic on a cush 1:20 (scy) interval. Holding 1:05s on the 200 was not hard. Holding 1:03s on the 100s was not hard. For some reason holding 32 or better on the 50s was seemingly impossible. Funny how that is sometimes. After that it was off to work and then I rode home for a date with the trainer. A mixed VO2/LT workout. It went very well as compared to the scheduled VO2 workout last week on the bike. Funny how that happens too.
Today was another swim. A fair amount of stroke (non-freestyle) work. For you triathletes who do nothing but freestyle, you should really learn to do the other strokes...oh yeah flip turns too. There were a few 500s thrown in there too. Does 60% = 5:50, 70% = 5:40 and 80% = 5:25? I think that is close. Funny how 2-3 weeks ago a 5:30 in practice felt like 100% and then 1.5 weeks ago holding 1:03s for a mile seemed like 100%. And, well, the treadmill is just waiting for me.
